Energize Health & Hormones offers in-office bone health assessment using Echolight’s EchoS system and REMS (Radiofrequency Echographic Multi-Spectrometry) technology. REMS uses ultrasound-based radiofrequency signal analysis to assess bone mineral density at the lumbar spine and femoral neck—the same general skeletal regions evaluated by traditional DEXA testing. Unlike DEXA, REMS does not use ionizing radiation, and the scan can be performed conveniently in the office. EchoS is FDA-cleared for bone assessment in the United States.
The assessment provides bone mineral density measurements along with T- and Z-scores and a REMS-derived fragility assessment. This information can give Dr. Queen another window into bone health when considering a patient’s age, menopause status, medical history, medications, nutrition, activity level and other risk factors.
REMS is a newer technology, and it does not replace DEXA in every situation. When additional diagnostic evaluation is appropriate, Dr. Queen can recommend DEXA or other testing as part of a comprehensive assessment.
